B.J. Medical College, Ahmedabad: A Legacy of Medical Excellence.
Established in 1871 as Ahmedabad Medical School, the institute has been a cornerstone of medical education since its inception. Initially affiliated with Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad, it began with just 14 students training as hospital assistants.
In 1879, a generous donation of Rs. 20,000 by Sir Byramjee Jeejeebhoy led to the school being renamed B. J. Medical School. The institution steadily expanded, securing affiliation with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Bombay in 1917 and later with Bombay University in 1946, earning its status as B. J. Medical College, offering L. C. P. S. diplomas.
Continuing its commitment to medical education, the college affiliated its undergraduate courses with Gujarat University in 1951, followed by postgraduate courses in 1956. Since then, Gujarat University has overseen its academic progression, fostering an environment where medical and paramedical education thrive.

Today, B. J. Medical College stands as a leading institution, playing a pivotal role in medical education and training in Gujarat and across India. Each year, 250 students secure admission through a national entrance examination, receiving world-class training in medical sciences. The college offers an extensive array of programs, including:
– Postgraduate courses in 24 branches of medicine, with total intake of 418 students annually.
– Super specialty courses 11 branches
As a recognized centre for the National Board of Medical Examinations, the college has made significant contributions to medical research, collaborating with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). Its pioneering efforts in integrated teaching and training programs in child health services and universal immunization have earned recognition from the World Health Organization (WHO).
