The Department of Anatomy, led by Dr. Sucheta Chaudhary, is one of the foundational pillars of medical education at B. J. Medical College, Ahmedabad. It offers comprehensive anatomical training to undergraduate students of MBBS, BPT, Nursing and allied paramedical programmes, alongside an active postgraduate stream with an annual intake of 9 MD seats.

Teaching is delivered by an experienced faculty across a modern lecture hall, a spacious dissection hall, a dedicated histology laboratory and a well-curated museum of specimens. Cadaver-based dissection remains the cornerstone of learning, complemented by hands-on histology and embryology sessions that build strong conceptual foundations.

The department contributes to scientific knowledge across gross anatomy, histology, embryology, genetics and osteology, with regular publications in national and international journals. It collaborates with peer institutions on interdisciplinary research and hosts academic events, workshops and cadaveric surgical training programmes for practising clinicians. Dr. Rashmikant Dave, Associate Professor, also serves as Faculty Dean at Gujarat University.

A distinctive area of public engagement is the department’s Body Donation Programme, which encourages voluntary donations for medical education and research and promotes the ethical use of human remains in training. Through this balance of rigorous teaching, research and community outreach, the Department of Anatomy continues to shape the next generation of medical professionals.
