
The academic year at B. J. Medical College commences on 1st August each year, as stipulated by the NMC.
Each academic year consists of a minimum of 39 teaching weeks, with each working day comprising no fewer than eight hours of academic activity including one hour for lunch.
The MBBS programme spans four-and-a-half years across three phases, followed by one year of Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship (CRMI).
Phase I and Phase II are of 12 months each; Phase III is of 30 months, subdivided into Part I (12 months) and Part II (18 months).
The Foundation Course, which orients incoming students to the MBBS programme and builds essential communication, language, and technical skills, is conducted at the commencement of Phase I. Examinations are held at the end of each phase, and students must successfully clear each phase before progressing to the next. Phase-wise timetables and clinical posting schedules are issued by the respective departments at the beginning of each academic term.
