The Department of Urology, headed by Dr. Shrenik Shah, offers 4 postgraduate seats annually and has emerged as a high-volume centre of excellence in minimally invasive urological care. The department serves patients from across Gujarat and from neighbouring states including Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, with each outpatient clinic seeing over 300 patients — a reflection of both accessibility and the trust the department has earned across the region.

The department’s clinical scope spans the entire spectrum of urology. Advanced stone management is delivered through PCNL, PUCL and URSL, alongside more than 700 Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL) procedures completed in the most recent 11 months — offering incision-free treatment for kidney and ureteric stones. Prostate surgery includes laser prostatectomy and TURP, while comprehensive oncological care covers benign and malignant disease of the kidney, ureter, bladder, prostate and testis. Andrology, male-infertility services and round-the-clock emergency urology — including bladder injuries, penile fractures and intraoperative gynaecological consultations — complete the service profile.

Minimally invasive surgery is a particular strength: the department has performed over 2,300 laparoscopic procedures in the past year, including 133 3D laparoscopic surgeries. In the same period, the team completed more than 850 major surgeries — including 240 PCNL, 140 laparoscopic, 129 TURP, 64 TURBT and 170 URSL cases — along with over 3,800 minor procedures, underlining the department’s high surgical volume and clinical efficiency.

Academic engagement is equally strong. The department has hosted eight editions of LAPUROWORKSHOP since 2009, drawing national and international faculty, and is preparing for the 9th edition — the Advanced Robotics and LAPUROWORKSHOP 2025, scheduled for 6–7 September. These workshops play an important role in advancing laparoscopic and robotic urological training in the region.
