The Department of ENT (Otorhinolaryngology), headed by Dr. Ila B. Upadhya, is committed to delivering quality ear, nose and throat care while training competent ENT surgeons. With an annual postgraduate intake of 10 seats, the department combines high clinical volume with a strong academic and surgical-skills focus.

The department is a pioneer in advanced otology and skull-base surgery in Gujarat. It was the first institution in the state to perform endonasal CR procedures, trans-nasal surgery for pituitary adenoma excision, and cochlear implant surgery — with over 2,000 cochlear implants completed since 2004, including more than 1,000 in recent years. Surgical scope extends to lesions of the lateral and posterior skull base, high-grade juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma, therapeutic and cosmetic rhinoplasty, vocal-cord paralysis correction by thyroplasty, endoscopic dacryocystorhinostomy and Eustachian-tube balloon dilatation.

Dedicated specialty clinics give patients access to focused expertise across the spectrum of ENT disorders — including vertigo, rhinology, otology, laryngology, sinus and allergy clinics — staffed by experienced consultants and supported by high-end diagnostic and surgical technology.

Academic engagement is a defining strength. The department regularly organises CMEs, live practical-oriented grand-viva rounds (webcast on YouTube), workshops and conferences. Recent flagship events include the FESS Fest — a hands-on functional endoscopic sinus surgery and skull-base cadaveric dissection workshop — and the 2023 MENTOR Summit, a live surgical workshop on Eustachian-tube dilatation and balloon sinuplasty. These initiatives keep faculty and trainees aligned with the latest global advances and build a steady pipeline of competent young surgeons.
