Super Specialties Regulations
Super specialty (DM/MCh) programmes at B. J. Medical College are governed by the same overarching framework of the NMC’s Post-Graduate Medical Education Regulations, 2023 (PGMER-23), which also applies to doctoral-level medical training.
DM (Doctorate of Medicine) and MCh (Master of Chirurgiae) are the highest postgraduate medical qualifications recognised by the National Medical Commission, representing the apex of medical education and offering advanced, highly specialised clinical training.
Candidates must possess a recognised postgraduate medical degree (MD/MS/DNB) in the relevant broad specialty, as specified in Annexure 9 of PGMER-23, and must be registered with the NMC or a State Medical Council.
NEET-SS is the single eligibility-cum-ranking entrance examination prescribed under Section 61(2) of the National Medical Commission Act, 2019, for admission to all DM/MCh and DrNB super specialty courses.
The standard duration of DM and MCh programmes is three years of full-time, structured residency training. DM requires a medical (MD) feeder qualification, while MCh requires a surgical (MS) feeder qualification, as per Annexure 9 of PGMER-23.
Admission through NEET-SS is followed by centralised counselling conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) for all government medical college seats.
Students are subject to the same attendance, leave, and assessment framework as broad specialty postgraduate students under PGMER-23. For the complete regulations and the list of feeder specialties, please visit www.nmc.org.in.
