The Electives module is a structured component of the MBBS curriculum at B. J. Medical College, introduced under the NMC’s CBME framework to foster self-directed learning and allow students to explore areas of medicine beyond the core curriculum.
Electives offer students the opportunity to pursue a focused learning experience in a specialty or setting of their choice — within the institution, at another recognised medical college, or at a research organisation — under the guidance of a faculty mentor. The duration of electives under CBME Guidelines 2023 is one month, conducted during Phase III of the programme.
Students must maintain a minimum of 75% attendance during their elective posting and are required to maintain and submit a logbook documenting their learning activities; failure to meet either requirement will result in ineligibility to appear in the final MBBS examination or NExT.
The elective experience is assessed as part of the internal assessment process.
