The MBBS programme at B. J. Medical College follows the Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) framework, as mandated by the National Medical Commission (NMC) under its CBME Guidelines 2023. The curriculum is outcome-driven, learner-centred, and designed to produce Indian Medical Graduates who are competent, ethical, and capable of serving diverse healthcare needs.
The four-and-a-half year programme is divided into three phases: Phase I (12 months) covering the pre-clinical sciences of Anatomy, Physiology, and Biochemistry; Phase II (12 months) covering para-clinical subjects; and Phase III (30 months, divided into Part I of 12 months and Part II of 18 months) covering clinical subjects.
Teaching and learning are both horizontally and vertically integrated across specialisations, combining didactic lectures (capped at one-third of timetable time) with interactive sessions, practicals, clinicals, group discussions, problem-based learning, and early clinical exposure.
The curriculum includes an Attitude, Ethics and Communication (AETCOM) module, a Foundation Course, a Skills Training Module, logbook-based learning, and an Electives Module — ensuring that students develop not only clinical competence but also professional values, communication skills, and a community health perspective. The full CBME curriculum is available on the NMC website at www.nmc.org.in.
