  6. The ultimate aim is to provide best child care through intact survival and thus to reduce NMR, IMR, & under 5 mortality.

Message from Head of Department, Pediatrics:

I,Dr K M Mehariya, HODPediatric Department have immense pleasure to mention the greater heights attained by our department of B J Medical College existing since more than 50 years. It is the largest tertiary referral centre for critical care of children not only of Gujarat State but also of M.P., U.P. and Rajasthan including other medical colleges.

We have well equipped100 bedded NICU– largest in the India with very good outcome and intact survival, for that the department has been awarded prize from the state government in 2012. This honour was due to provision of round the clock services through enthusiastic and experienced faculties and hard working resident doctors and sincere nursing staff.

Apart from huge clinical work, more than70,000 OPD and 10,000 admissionsannually, we have very good academic sessions including organization of state level conferences and CME’s, active participation in national and international conferences. We celebrate World Breast Feeding week, Newborn week, ORS week, children day and nutritional rehabilitation programme for public awareness for better child health

With the help and guidance of ourDean, Dr Bharat ShahandMedical superintendent, Dr M M Prabhakarwe are able to run7 super-speciality clinics, EEG lab, ROP detection, research(I have taken “ROTA virus Surviellance Research Project” from ICMR – in association with NIV, Pune – a 4 years study which will have results for ROTA virus vaccine for children in our country) and providing complete curative, promotive and preventive services to the children aiming atreducing NMR, IMR and Under-5 mortalitythrough provision of total free services, even to the children with heart diseases, renal diseases as well as malignancies.

I myself and my team will have sincere efforts to make the special recognition of this department and NICU at national and international level and crediting our respected instituteB J Medical College, Ahmedabad.

Facilities:

  • The Pediatric department has a total bed strength of 180 beds which includes a 10 bedded PICU. We have 100 bedded NICU.
  • Latest equipments in the form of ventilators, CPAP, phototherapy units, etc are available.
  • The pediatric department also runs various pediatric specialty clinics.
  • Referral facilities to various pediatric superspecialities like Pediatric Neurology, Surgery, Hemato-oncology, Nephrology, Cardiology etc is available.
  • To provide medicines & treatment to patients free of cost under various national and state health programmes like School Health Programme, JSSK, Bal Nirogi Yojana, Rogi Kalyan Samiti, Nutritional Rehabilitation Programme, Khilkhilat Initiative etc
  • Immunization to all indoor and outdoor patients free of cost including Pentavalent vaccine.
  • Iron chelators are provided to all thalassemics under school health programme.
