The U N Mehta Institute of Cardiology & Research Centre (UNMICRC) is a grant–in–aid institute promoted by the Government of Gujarat vide Government Resolution CHA-1092-5595-J dated 20.04.1992.

The Institute is affiliated to the BJ Medical College, Civil Hospital Campus, Asarwa, Ahmedabad, which is a Government Medical College.

Institute is governed by Governing Board where Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of Gujarat, is Ex-officio Chairperson of the Governing Board of  UNMICRC

U. N. Mehta Institute of Cardiology & Research Centre is located in the western part of India - a Unique world class cardiac tertiary care teaching hospital where the motto is to give compassionate & quality cardiac care at concessional or no cost to all class of people especially the poorest of poor

The Institute is a Teaching, Research, Academic, Training, Cardiac Super specialty Resident Program

Institute is running different patient benevolent free/concesional cardiac treatment schemes. 

  1. Free Cardiac School Health Program (Started Since 1999) (Now it is Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK)
  2. MUKHYA-MANTRI AMRUTAM (MA) YOJNA (Started Since September 2012)
  3. MUKHYA-MANTRI AMRUTAM (MA) VATSALYA YOJNA (Started Since August 2014)
  4. AYUSHMAN BHARAT YOJNA (PMJAY) (Started Since September 2018)
  5. SCHEDULED CASTE (SC) CATEGORY (Started Since November 2008)
  6. SCHEDULED TRIBE (ST) CATEGORY (Started Since April 2008)
  7. LOW INCOME GROUP (L.I.G.) (Started Since June 2012)
  8. OTHER FINANCIAL AIDS TO POOR PATIENT
  9. ATAL SNEH YOJNA

The Institute is running the unique EMCS (Emergency Medical Cardiac Services) scheme (Since 2006) where any patient admitted to cardiac ICU for a cardiac treatment will be provided immediate ‘life saving cardiac treatment’ without any advance payment for initial 24 hours, which covers First golden hour of cardiac treatment like acute myocardial infarction in which Primary Angioplasty with stenting in Myocardial Infarction (PAMI)/ Thrombolysis is very effective, if considered within 3-4 hours of acute heart attack. Donation for this scheme comes from various donors.

  • Total Cardiac Procedures                : 21065
  • Total Cardiac Surgeries                   : 5221

These broad figures give an idea of the volume of work being carried out in this and these numbers are increasing year by year.

The institute is unique Teaching, Research and Academic institute:

  • Super Specialty Teaching Courses (in affiliation with B.J. Medical College, Ahmedabad under Gujarat University)  
  • All seats are filled on merit base through NEET SS without any donation. 
    • DM Cardiology : 18 Registration per year
    • MCh Cardio Vascular Thoracic Surgery : 12 Registration per year
    • DM Cardiac Anesthesia : 12 Registration Per year

  • Post Graduate Diploma in Extra Corporeal Perfusion Technology in affiliation with Gujarat University : 8 Registration per year.

 

  • Various paramedical courses in affiliation with Gujarat University:
    • Cath Lab Assistant – 15 seats per year
    • ECG/TMT/Holter Assistant – 15 seats per year
    • Echo Cardiogram Assistant – 15 seats per year
