      The ‘Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology’ primarily teaches the subject to 2nd & 3rd MBBS (undergraduate), MD & PhD (post-graduate) students of BJMC Ahmedabad. Department emphasize professionalism in future Doctors not only by instilling the virtue of Medical Ethics & Etiquette but also by implanting legal aspects of medical practice.  Also, it provides vital medicolegal services to Judiciary through police to ensure administration of righteous justice & public safety. Some of the Key highlights of services are

  • Expert Postmortem examinations in cases of murders, rape, firing, custodial deaths, decomposition, skeletonization etc. to explore & reveal intricacies of death.
  • Expert Testimony in courts of law on behalf of Government to explain & resolve complex legal cases through medical & scientific reasoning.
  • Accomplished resource for medicolegal analysis to derive legitimate opinion in complicated medicolegal cases or medical negligence cases.
  • Exhibits exemplary competence in dignified management of dead victims while maintaining legal compliance in mass disasters viz. Plane crash, riots, earth quack, covid-19 or any mass casualty incidents.  
  • Medico legal trainings pertaining to tasks, interpretations & analysis of Forensic cases to Judicial officers, Judges, Doctors, lawyers, Medical & Forensic science students etc.
  • Embalming Services for preservation of dead at request of relatives, to ease transportation of deceased.  
  • Facilitating retrieval of Heart valves, vessels & tissues of deceased by motivating & obtaining their relative’s consent for donation, thereby leading to Transplantation.
  • Advancements in Forensic & Toxicology by engagement in research, education, training, CME, workshops & conferences etc.
