The Department of Surgery at Gujarat’s oldest and largest medical college proudly upholds a legacy of excellence in surgical care, education, and research. As the premier tertiary care referral centre for the state, the department caters to a diverse patient population from Gujarat as well as neighbouring states such as Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra.Our Department is doing Minimal invasive laparoscopic and variety of advance and basic surgeries.Our daily outpatient department serves approximately 250 patients, testifying to our commitment to accessible and comprehensive care. In the previous academic year alone, the department performed over 5,000 surgeries, reflecting our clinical expertise and extensive capacity.
Organized into 10 dedicated units, the department is led by Dr. Himesh R. Chauhan (Professor, General Surgery), the current Head of Department. We actively contribute to the academic community by organizing various conferences and Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs, ensuring ongoing professional development. Undergraduate and postgraduate students benefit from exposure to a wide spectrum of clinical conditions, enriching their learning experience and preparing them to meet future challenges in surgery.
